Community Involvement

We feel it is important to put something back into our community. Amongst other things we have run or been involved in the following free events:

  • Arranged a “back to work” workshop at Esporta Health club in Poole. The workshop was designed for candidates who may have been out of the workplace for a while and were looking to return to work.

  • Attended local schools as part of the Dorset Enterprise and Skills Roadshow to discuss career opportunities with students and explain the employment market, interview techniques, CV’s etc.

  • Worked alongside local companies who are making redundancies – holding workshops on how candidates can get the most out of a recruitment agency.

  • Organised a fund-raising evening for charity. The event was held at a local restaurant, Storm in Poole, and was based on a Spanish theme. We held a silent auction and the event raised £2,486.00 for The Butterfly Appeal for About Face and Children’s Wish.

  • Ran a seminar in conjunction with Dorset Business and Poole Partnership to make local Companies aware of the decreasing workforce and to look at employing a more diverse workforce.

  • Attended a meeting at East Dorset District Council in conjunction with the Multi Area Agreement Skills Theme Group to discuss skills shortages, employability issues and actions to address them.

  • Became part of the mindful employer initiative group within Bournemouth and Poole discussing how to raise awareness of mental health issues at work.

  • Provided careers guidance to business and economic students at Bournemouth School for Girls.

  • Jobshop is helping teenagers aged 16 - 19 gain essential skills and qualities needed for their career planning and management by providing them with the opportunity to gain a realistic experience of a job interview. The young people are being given the opportunity to participate in a mock interview, with feedback and advice being given by Jobshop UK during a videoed interview session. Jobshop are providing this expertise free of charge to the teenagers who are all participating in Bourmenouth, Dorset and Poole’s Connexions LEAP (Local Employment Access Project) programme.

JOBSHOP’S CHARITY

Each year Jobshop choose a charity to raise money for, this year we have chosen Julia’s House.

Julia’s House is Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children they care for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.

Complementing the work of the Julia’s House Community Team, which consists of 60 Nurses and Carers who travel the county, the children’s hospice provides life-changing support for families both in their own homes and in the hospice itself. In 2008, the charity provided more than 8,300 hours of care for Dorset’s children.

Receiving approximately three per cent funding from the Government, Julia’s House relies on the Dorset community to help raise the remainder of their required income. For 2009, Julia’s House estimates that it will cost £2.4m to continue to provide their vital services.
