Jobshop raises funds to support Julia's House
11 December 2009
Poole based recruitment agency, Jobshop UK, has presented Dorset’s only children’s hospice, Julia’s House, with a cheque for £860 from money raised through events carried out by the agency during 2009. The company’s nominated charity for 2009, Jobshop has raised the money from a range of fund raising events that have included a sponsored golf day, donating money normally spent on Christmas cards, temps payroll giving and a shopping evening.
Held at Storm Restaurant on 26th November, the fund raising shopping evening enabled ladies from the Poole area to buy a range of Christmas gifts including jewellery, children’s’ toys, connoisseur teas, Lush soaps, Celebration crackers and handbag butlers. The evening proved a great success raising £500 for Julia’s House.
Commenting, Tracey Wood, Director Jobshop UK said: “We are delighted to have made Julia’s House our special charity and to have raised funds for it throughout the year. We believe it is particularly important that local businesses support community charities and in particular such a worthwhile cause as Julia’s House”.
Jobshop UK and Julia’s House also has a professional relationship, with the charity using the recruitment agency’s services. In fact one of Jobshop’s temps has been working at Julia’s House for over a year.
Commenting, Jane Errington, Corporate Fundraiser for Julia’s House said “I just wanted to let you know that £860 will pay for a hospice session each for 12 children at Julia’s House hospice. We normally have 6 children per session, so effectively you have paid for two lots of sessions. During these sessions, the children have the chance to play and be stimulated in a way that they would not get at home. They love it! As well it gives their parents the opportunity to take a break from the pressures of looking after a seriously ill child. Thank you.”
Julia's House relies upon the generosity of the Dorset community to continue its life-changing work for seriously ill children and their families. In 2009, it needed to raise £2.4m and with only approximately 3 per cent of this amount coming from the Government. Officially opened in March 2006, Julia’s House provides day care for up to ten children at one time. The hospice takes great care to offer a warm, welcoming and homely environment where the children can enjoy genuine quality of life. Now in 2009, the community team has now grown to over 65 Nurses and Carers, and at any one time Julia's House is caring for around 85 children.
